Economics Professor Dr. Zaid Al-Rommany for "Riyadh" excessive consumption among some families in Ramadan thrseatens their economic life"

Dialogue - Ali Al-Shathri:

Dr. Zaid Al-Rommany, professor of economics and faculty member of Imam Mohammed bin Saud Islamic University, said: There has become a expelling relationship in our contemporary life between the month of fasting and the voracious consumption in food and purchasing.

Speaking to Riyadh, he explained that the month of Ramadan has been associated in the minds of some with advertising, and marketing festivals and turning the day of Ramadan for some to fast, laziness and nights food and consumption.

He stressed that excessive consumption among families in Ramadan threatens their economic life because 45 % of the meals prepared go to waste barrels.

He said: Fasting is a great spiritual school, and in fasting the participation available between the rich and the poor is manifested, and in fasting is an opportunity to raise the queen of honesty in the feeling of fasting, and the prey of fasting is raised in the psyche of the fasting talent of the system..

In short, he noted: Fasting is one of the pillars and five pillars of Islam, and the Holy Hadith states, "Fasting is for me and I am rewarded with it."

On the other hand, one of the meanings of fasting is that it is a capture of abdominal lust, and in an economic sense: reducing spending, i.e. rationalizing it more precisely.

In our contemporary life, however, we see a expletive relationship between the month of fasting and the bright and one-time consumption that is amazed by this consumer approach, which is widespread among the general public this month without logical justification.

Everyone was running towards excessive consumption, preparing for consumption in Ramadan started early with a terrible machine of advertising, advertising and marketing festivals that surrounded the family everywhere, at any time and in more ways than one.

He said: The wife is pushing towards buying more and the children are insisting on their consumer demands and the same person has a state of lust to buy anything that is expendable and in too many quantities.

It is regrettable that some people are accustomed to some bad habits that are alien to the month of Ramadan which is the way consumer spending is not from Islam.

"When the month of Ramadan we see that the majority of Muslims make a budget in the normal months, and they start to double their consumption and the day is fast, lazy and at night is unusual food and consumption," he said.

He said: They forgot that shortening daily meals from three to two meals is a good opportunity to reduce the level of consumption, which is a good opportunity for our economies, especially as we are a consuming nation, all statistics indicated that all our countries consume more than their production and import more than their export, and this constant excess consumption and excess import are often only two serious economic factors that are derived from their finances public budgets and balance of payments.

It is not feared that the extravagance of Ramadan can be consistent with the situation of our societies, which are mostly developing societies that require the maintenance of every effort and every possibility of waste and what we make in Ramadan is certainly a waste of material potential and waste of lofty values and waste of the behavior of the status of conviction.

It is well known that the ever-increasing consumption means greater dependence on the outside, as we have not yet reached the stage of self-sufficiency or a reasonable level, to provide our needs based on our own resources and efforts, and this has a more serious dimension: the existence of a food dependency situation for the other who owns these resources and can control their quality, quality and time of sending them to us.

Therefore, consumption has had many serious dimensions that threaten our economic life and also our national security. Will the month of Ramadan be an opportunity and a space for the will to address the state of the terrible consumption that we have in this holy month.

He said that the characteristic of consuming a Muslim is sufficiency, not waste, and that his benefit and satisfaction are achieved not only by material satisfaction but also through spiritual gratification by performing the duty towards Muslims from god's money. His benefit is achieved even in carrying out his duty to Muslims and before that his family, wife and son.

Therefore, that the Muslim seeks to be patients of Allah Almighty, and he thanks God for his grace and praises him whenever he helps him to consume some of the livelihood of his Lord and the Muslim spends his money to achieve a benefit to meet his needs, to achieve his pleasure and sufficiency from haram, and to achieve the patients of Allah and to obtain his reward.

He stressed that the month of fasting is a periodic opportunity to identify the list of expenditures due in the economic sense, on the list of tunnel exclusion and then an opportunity to arrange the priorities, and then also an opportunity to know the level of surplus possible.

He explained that the month of Ramadan an opportunity to achieve better rationalization, and to expand the pot of the possible surplus, but provided that it is linked to the well-known Qur'anic indicative rule: Cle, Eat and drink and don't waste. This rule is undoubtedly the field of rationalization at the individual and general levels.

The researchers emphasized an important fact that the chaos of consumption is clearly highlighted, when the wife begins to offer her expenses to be expenses of goods and food that actually swallow the monthly income until the last penny in it.

Waste infections are transmitted to children and the lack of sense of the value of things grows and therefore they do not keep their toys. Or their books. In the light of this, waste and luxury are no longer an individual issue but a social manifestation, and it is no longer a current temporal issue, but a matter that extends to the future and waste and luxury is no longer limited to the family but also to the homeland.

It was common among us that women were more extravagant than men, whether in clothing or spending, but there were men who were more extravagant in their money, behavior and possessions, which was relative and related to the size of the individual's temptations to waste.

The important question remains: which is more extravagant than men, women or both?

The fact was that both men and women were responsible, although wastefulness was relatively more wasteful in women's society.

Thus, the wife who prepares, cooks and the husband who brings and spends both is accused of the consumerism that plagues our society in Ramadan and Ramadan.

Dr. Al-Rommany added that in one year, the Ramadan month's share of the annual consumption campaign in one Arab country was estimated at 20%, i.e. in one month, Ramadan, it consumed one fifth of its entire annual consumption, while in the remaining four months it consumed the remaining four fifths, and the Ramadan that year could cost the Treasury about $720 million.

Some recent studies indicate that food items that are dumped, destroyed and placed in garbage cans are so large that in some cases they may account for 45% of the garbage volume.

A field study on wasteful food was also conducted in one city in one country, with the result that daily waste is about 1 million liras and annual waste of 365 million lire.

It can therefore be said in general that extravagance this month (Ramadan) and others is a feature of our Arab region.

Unfortunately, the phenomenon of globalization had spread to religious, social and economic aspects, the most serious of which was faith.

Ramadan month is being transformed year after year into an event for the massive and sharp promotion of various goods, contributing strongly to various media, advertising arts and advertising agencies.

Thus, religious sentiments are increasingly being exploited as a means of expanding the market and sometimes even promoting the most religiously distant goods.

We therefore emphasize that the key to resolving real crises lies in consumer education.

Ramadan is an attempt to formulate a rational consumption pattern and a one-month intensive training process that understands that a person can live by eliminating consumption, consuming some vocabulary in his daily life and for long hours every day.

He explained that it was an educational attempt to break the consumer understanding that social and psychological scientists had agreed was a satisfactory situation.

Finally, the most important treatments through which consumer ism can be addressed or mitigated:

First, harmful consumer values should be eliminated so that luxury consumption does not cause poverty amid prosperity, as it continues to waste family resources.

Second: I would like to provide the required quantities, quality, quality and time period for the consumption of goods and products.

Thirdly, our emotional emotions about the quantities to be purchased and consumed must be curbed at the level of children, women and families.

Fourth: Be ware of imitating luxury societies with a luxurious, luxurious consumer style.

He said one day, Omar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah bless him, stopped his son Abdullah, and asked him, "Where are you going?" Abdullah said: To the market, he justified this by saying: To buy meat I desired, al-Faruq said to him: Whatever you desired something you bought.

"It's timeless economic wisdom and a rational consumer base, especially as we are witnessing a frantic race nowadays with new marketing methods, exciting advertising methods and attractive media," he said. When you feel that the spending incentive is pushing you further, wasteful, shopping, buying and consumer purchasing, you should follow the following steps:

1- Work a little longer before you get your money out and ask yourself if this feeling is real or emotional.

2- Make sure that you do not buy the love of others with gifts or imitate them and emulate them with excessive spending.

3- Ask yourself before buying if you can buy better than this if you have a better bid.

In conclusion:

If we had collected everything spent on trivial things in a unified fund and then spent this on removing the causes of tragedy from people's lives, the land would have been repaired and the land would have been well lived in.
